The day before Muharram, the symbolic graves of Hussein and his followers have been dug.  They will be watered on the morning of Ashura

Men with bladders full of water empty them into the graves at the request of devotees ibn the morning.  Hussein, his family and followers died from thirst in the desert.  By this act, the faithful show that they would have provided water had they known of his plight.
