Old Delhi Sweet Dreams: Kanwarji

Since the middle of the 19th century Kanwar ji has been keeping Chandni Chowk sweet and doing so with a particularly fine line in gulab jamun.

You know the ones.  The warm, syrupy, melt in the mouth, light brown, sausage shaped gulab jamun that keeps you coming back for more.   If you don’t, then get yourself here and get sampling.

Right by Parantha Wali Gali, Kanwarji is a straightforward choice for dessert after feasting on the famed parantha shops that line this small street off Chandni Chowk.

Not just a sweet house, Kanwarji also do a fine line in namkeen too.  It’s Dal Biji, made with gramflour, melon seeds and cashew nuts is a special that’s helped make this stall a family favourite.

Just how many excuses do I need to give you to get down to Kanwar ji?
